Ken Sanders Foundations: Walk for Lung Health

Ken Sanders Foundation to host inaugural Walk for Lung Health in Support of Sarcoidosis Research

April 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Waldorf, MD – March 16, 2012 - The Ken Sanders Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization that strives to
improve the physical, mental, and emotional health of individuals with Sarcoidosis in Southern
Maryland, will host their inaugural Walk for Lung Health on Saturday May 5, 2012 at the Indian Head
Rail Trail in White Plains, MD.
All community partners are welcome to walk either as an individual, or as a family, corporate or
school team. The tax deductable registration fee, which comes with a free Walk to Lung Health tshirt,
is only $20.00 per person in advance and $30.00 the day of the event. Children under the age
of 10 free. Sign-in begins at 8 am and the walk will start promptly at 9 am. For those that would like
to support this valuable event, but unable to walk, there are also great volunteer and sponsorship
opportunities still available.
The purpose of this 3K walk is to heighten awareness of Sarcoidosis in the Southern Maryland
Community. Funds will benefit the Ken Sanders Foundation, so they may continue to financially
support the Sarcoidosis Group of Southern Maryland and the National Foundation for Sarcoidosis
Research. “Participating in the Walk for Lung Health will be a great opportunity to both aid those
affected by this fatal disease and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forests, wetlands and farmland”
says Kenneth Sanders, Executive Trustee of the Ken Sanders Foundation and Sarcoidosis sufferer.
Sarcoidosis [sahr-koi-doh-sis] is an inflammatory disease that can attack almost any organ in the
body. It causes heightened immunity, meaning that a person’s immune system overreacts, resulting
in damage to body tissue. No one knows the exact cause of Sarcoidosis, but some research
suggests that bacteria, viruses or chemicals trigger this debilitating disease. Although it can affect
people of any age, race or gender, it is most common amongst African Americans and people of
European descent (particularly Scandinavian) between the ages of 20 and 40.
