"We're very excited about reaching this phenomenal milestone," said a Candis spokesperson. "We're immensely proud of what we've achieved, in terms of longevity, popularity and our considerable charity support. As we approach the 50th anniversary next month, we want to give something back to our existing members and subscribers as well as welcome new members to the Candis family. That's why the anniversary edition of our family magazine will be jam-packed with great features and will be supported by some enticing offers."
The family-focused health and beauty magazine will carry a special feature highlighting the Top 50 moments from the publication's illustrious history.
Candis was formed as the Cancer and Polio Research Fund (CPRF) in 1962 by Joseph K Douglas and had 24,000 members entering a weekly football pool organised by Pembroke Publications, the predecessor to the incumbent Newhall Publications. A fortnightly newsletter went into publication nine years later to report the work of CPRF and continue to help raise important funds.
The newsletter had grown into a 28-page publication by 1985 and a year later a competition was organised to choose its new name. Candis was born and by the late 1990s the new-look, 124-page full-colour publication had established itself as a leading family magazine.
Over the course of the 50 years, Candis has helped raise more than £54million for the charities it has supported.
