April 20, 2012 - PRLog -- If you haven’t done much tiling before but want to have a go at tiling a smaller floor area in the home, there is plenty of advice and information on the internet that will help you make a success of your tiling project step by step.
The measuring and calculating tile quantities and mapping out the floor area is one of the most important aspects to tiling a floor successfully, if measurements are out and not totally accurate, problems will occur almost certainly either in the middle of the tiling task or towards the end when the last few floor tiles are installed.
Finding the centre and the middle of the two opposite walls is the first task, use these points to draw a pencil or chalk line across the floor in the centre of the room. Make sure that the centre point is accurate and square, you can use a square to do this.
Often spacers are not used as they are with wall tiles and you need to accurately gage the space for the grout lines. Place and [position floor tiles down both the width and length of the room. Installing the tiles from the centre of the room is always the best way to start, start by installing a tile at the intersection of the lines and use the lines as a guide as you work your way towards the walls.
If you do choose to use spacers, always ensure you remove these before applying the grout , lay the floor tile firmly in the grout ensuring you wipe any excess tile grout away before it has chance to dry, this can be done by using a suitable solution and a sponge or a dry clean cloth.
As you work your way towards the edges of the room, this is when floor tiles will need to be cut and measured to fit around appliances such as cupboards, sinks or baths and the correct cutting and safety equipment must be used to carry out the job correctly and safely. One mistake many first time tillers make is not having the correct equipment and this can pose huge problems half way through a task.
There are also lots floor tile designs and variations on the internet that will both give ideas and inspiration to home owners. Floor tiles will have dramatic results for the home and choosing the right colours and tile patterns is hugely important.
