“For our partnership in this project we decided on an Earth Day image as a record of the 2012 Earth Day and to serve as a reminder to all who experience the exhibition of our shared responsibilities to the planet,” says Shamini Dhana, founder and CEO of Dhana EcoKids. James Viola, an artist and another Square Inches of Love participant, created the Earth Day image for the space.
“I knew I wanted to create a scene that was both romantic (in the traditional sense of the word), intriguing, and somewhat narrative,” says Viola. “I had this vision of an untouched landscape in my head. Then I created a subtle nuance of humanity at the bottom of the poster. I was trying to create something bold that would immediately grab people's attention and then draw them in with the small details.” It was Viola who came up with the slogan “Make Every Day An Earth Day” for the resulting image, which can be purchased as a poster at http://squareinchesoflove.com/
Dhana EcoKids is donating one dollar of each purchase from its online collection from now until April 30th toward space on the Square Inches of Love exhibition for the Earth Day image.
“As the digital revolution and interactions in the virtual world grow, space is becoming less meaningful and engaging to its occupants and yet it is fuller than ever,” says Salome Reeves, founder of OPeX. The intention of the project is to optimistically explore the power of collective creativity along with virtual efforts to create a socially sustainable future.
During the online phase of Square Inches of Love, currently underway, the project is open to the participation of any individual, business, or organization who wishes to contribute. Submissions are displayed on the project’s website, http://squareinchesoflove.com, and can be linked to participants’
