Celebrate The Fab Four with a visit to Liverpool

Believe it or not it is fifty years since The Beatles first took to the stage in Merseyside. Since then the combo have become a 20th Century pop phenomenom, and this article highlights how Liverpool is celebrating this landmark anniversary.

April 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Liverpool is famous for its culture, shopping, heritage and style anytime but 2012 is a special year to visit the city.

Why? Well, to misquote a famous line from Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band….”It was 50 years ago this year…..”

Yes, it was on 18th August 1962 that four relatively unknown musicians took to a small stage and one of the most famous pop groups in the world was born. The Beatles’ anniversary is being marked with a year of spectacular events so now is the time to book your hotel in Liverpool and get set to take a trip down memory lane to Strawberry Fields and much more.

The Beatles – John, Paul, George and Ringo – went off to conquer the world after “headlining” at that dance organised by the local horticultural society. Their first official release in 1962 was Love Me Do and was followed by Please, Please Me and From Me To You. Beatlemania soon swept the globe went on to record a staggering 12 studio albums, 13 EPs and 22 singles from 1962 to 1970. It is estimated they sold more than one billion records worldwide.

No wonder then that fans from across the world have been booking their hotels in Liverpool to mark The Beatle’s special anniversary.

Almost every Saturday throughout 2012 the legendary Cavern Club is staging Beatles tribute shows, a must for every fan. The venue is also the scene of other commemorative events throughout the year.

In June Sir Paul McCartney’s 70th birthday will be marked by several shows including one by Wings Over Liverpool.  Even the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra gets involved in the year of celebration with a concert featuring The Lennon and McCartney Songbook.

August will see an event entitled Live Peace Liverpool and on Sunday, 9th December the city will hold the John Lennon Peace Vigil.

If you can’t visit Liverpool in 2012 there are still plenty of Beatles-themed activities to enjoy. Why not visit the award-winning Beatles Story exhibition, sample The Beatles Magical Mystery guided coach tour or take The Beatles Fab Four Taxi Tour?

Of course there is much more to Liverpool than The Fab Four. At any time of year the city’s programme of cultural events is jam-packed. Why not visit the theatre, a classical concert, pop gig, the horse races or The Walker Art Gallery? Known as the National Gallery of the North, it boasts works by Hockney, Dagas, Turner, Rembrandt and more.

Finding somewhere to stay in Liverpool won’t be a problem, in fact you will be spoilt for choice. Hotels in Liverpool offer everything from five star luxury and country house style to a zany themed room or a spa experience.

Many of the Liverpool hotels are also offering deals for 2012 so there has never been a better time to visit this stunning city with its famously friendly residents and warm welcome.
