Follow on Google News | Think You Have ‘Old Knees’ from Running? Cleveland Workshop Seeks to Educate and PreventA runner’s worst nightmare is a knee or other joint injury that can be blamed on his or her favorite activity. Two Cleveland experts join together to educate exercisers on must-do techniques to prevent injury and improve performance.
By: Liz Donnelly Two local experts want to shed a spotlight on the importance of stretching and have joined forces on an educational program called “The Runner’s Workshop.” Liz Donnelly, National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer and Jonathan Schauss, a Licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, want people to learn how to stretch and use self-massage for optimal performance. “Avid runners and weekend warriors alike run risks of injury without learning proper techniques to lengthen shortened muscles and improve flow throughout the body,” says Schauss, also owner of WellFit Rehabilitation and Aquatics in Westlake. He adds, “Being properly instructed in flexibility training is the one skill which can be the key to eliminating many running injuries.” Says Donnelly of Training by Liz in Westlake, “The public is in desperate need of understanding why and how to prepare and recover from exercise, especially as more people take on their own workouts. An ounce of prevention is a pound of cure, as they say.” “The Runner’s Workshop” will be held at 671 Columbia Road, Suite 2, Westlake, Ohio 44145 on Saturday, April 28 from 2:00-3:30 pm. Donations are requested to help the Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy at this year’s Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon.
