The school recently won a regional competition in which they had to put forward clean energy ideas and won a $50,000 grant from Yealands Estate for environmentally friendly initiatives. They have opted to use a significant portion of the grant for CPS’s 42 panel, 9 Kw solar energy system.
There’ll be a direct educational benefit too, as the children will be able to see smart, clean energy production at first-hand as they monitor real-time energy output and sunshine data from computers at the school. Coupled with this, our future Kiwi energy consumers will be receiving early training to make smart energy choices and reduce NZ’s carbon footprint.
CPS is providing the scheme to the school at a reduced rate, and Christchurch-
Murray Marquet, Director at CPS, said: ‘It’s really uplifting for us to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the choices our schools and kids are making, post the earthquakes. Similar contracts are being won by large corporates and internationals, but we are a small Canterbury family-owned and operated business working hard at making a big difference to energy consumption across the South Island.’
After February 11’s quake, CPS made a significant donation of the proceeds of every job they undertook to the Earthquake Relief Fund.
