One area of particular importance is the indoor air quality that students and faculty are exposed to during the school year. Due to budget constraints, a number of schools have had to postpone maintenance issues that can have a direct impact on students’ ability to learn and even their health.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and their Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Program, “Good Physical Conditions Can Reduce Absenteeism, Improve Test Scores and Improve Teacher Retention Rates. Studies that measure school conditions using an index of several variables consistently show improved scores on standardized tests as school conditions improve… IAQ problems can cause increased absences due to respiratory infections, allergic diseases from biological contaminants, or adverse reactions to chemicals used in schools.”
“We developed this video to remind parents and school administrators of the importance of good IAQ in schools,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network. “We hope this video about indoor air quality and student performance inspires schools to achieve the best air quality possible to help our children learn in a safe and healthy environment.”
