“Things were looking a bit ugly there from November through January,” says Abner McBride, of RiverTrip.com. “Fortunately, we've seen a string of significant storms from the middle of February through the middle of April that have brought significant rain and snow. This is raising the river levels, meaning the whitewater rafting season is off to a great start."
The rising rivers are coming just in time as May is the traditional kick off period for whitewater rafting in Northern California. The top rivers for rafting enthusiasts are the American River and Yuba River. The American River is broken up into a South, Middle and North Fork to provide different levels of rapids for rafters to have a go at.
