April 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Bangalore, April 18, 2012: Highlighting the rapidly expanding demand for its SPARC servers, Oracle today announced it has shipped thousands of midrange SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris, making it one of the fastest ramping server products in Oracle’s history . Oracle also outlined its strategy to accelerate its hardware business in India.
More than 800 customers around the world have adopted Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers since its launch barely 6 months ago, to power their enterprise and mission-critical applications on Oracle Solaris 10 or 11. Representing diverse industries, in India Bajaj Electricals, Conax Access Systems, Crimsonlogic lndia, Gautam Buddha University, Genpact Global Impact Solutions, Jaiprakash Associates Limited, Jammu & Kashmir Government, L&T Finance Ltd, Loyalty Solutions, Pancard Clubs Limited, SAS Infotech, Sharekhan Limited, SML ISUZU LTD, SunGard Solutions India, Symantec Software India, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Communications, Tech Mahindra, Varroc Engineering, Vascon Engineers and Wipro Limited have been some of the early adopters of Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers.
Mitesh Agarwal, CTO & Director - Systems Solution Consulting, Oracle India said “The Oracle SPARC T4 servers come with a 5X improvement in single thread performance, 1 TB of memory capacity and massive system throughput and I/O capacity, making it ideal for large scale applications, enterprise-wide consolidation and database projects that require extreme reliability, availability and security. We are delighted to see the quick uptake of these systems in India. SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris have emerged as one of the fastest ramping server products in Oracle history.”

Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers deliver superior performance versus IBM and HP and currently hold more than a dozen world records on key application workloads and industry standard benchmarks.  “This range of benchmark results demonstrates the power and innovation built into the new SPARC T-4 servers and provides further proof that Oracle hardware with Oracle Solaris is the best platform to run enterprise applications”, added Mitesh.

“Technology plays a critical role in helping us to run the organization more efficiently and to improve our competitiveness. Therefore, we are very particular about our technology choices. We were impressed with spectacular benchmark results of SPARC T4/Solaris Systems and hope to build a solid IT platform to run our mission critical applications” said Hemant Kumar, AVP - IT, Genpact Global

"In our sector, competition severely impacts product margins and demarcations, making it tougher for companies to innovate and build a stronger connect with consumers. Technology is critical in ensuring our efficiency and competitiveness. Since the implementation of Oracle Applications and BI solutions in 2009 to make our business teams more productive and adopt to best practices from CRM and ERP products, our faith in Oracle technology has amplified. To complement our ambitious growth plans in the Indian market, Oracle SPARC T4 servers were an obvious choice to bring in enterprise-wide efficiency and agility.” Said Pratap Gharge,  Executive Vice President & CIO, Bajaj Electricals Ltd. “With Oracle, we can easily move our applications unmodified to the new systems thanks to hardware and software binary compatibility. With the consolidation of the Servers with best in Class SPARC T4 and Solaris virtualization we were able to increase our Assets utilization and enhance performance to our business applications.”
Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers offer the highest performance and flexible application support required by next generation data centers. SPARC systems excel on mission-critical single threaded and highly concurrent workloads, they also allow customers to consolidate multiple application tiers onto a single server, reducing system complexity and improving utilization.
In combination with Oracle Solaris, SPARC T4 servers deliver unparalleled performance with impressive economics and are designed for every tier in the enterprise. With Oracle Solaris 11, the first cloud OS, SPARC T4 server customers can take advantage of cloud-scale life cycle management with secure, fail-safe boot environments, safe roll-backs, 4x faster upgrades and 2.5x faster system re-boots. Oracle’s SPARC T4 servers are also available as part of Oracle Optimized Solutions, pre-tested, tuned and fully documented solutions that reduce costs and accelerate deployment times by up to 4.5x.
Oracle’s 3-tier Hardware Strategy
As a part of this 3-tier strategy, on one end, Oracle will continue to offer best of breed building blocks to address enterprise datacenter needs. On the other end of the spectrum, Oracle provides tightly integrated engineered systems to help customers achieve extreme levels of efficiencies, simplicity, and manageability. And lastly, Optimized Solutions sit in between, offering great flexibility and broader applicability, based on best of breed components, optimized to offer the best performance, engineering for maximum scalability and reliability.
Elaborating on Oracle’s 3-tier hardware strategy, Kapil Sood, Vice President, Systems Business, Oracle India said “Traditionally, data centers were put together with building blocks of servers, storage, operating systems. Customers can continue to buy piece parts of these –Oracle Sun offers a wide range of best of breed server and storage products.  We also offer recommended configuration of systems –recipes, which can help them identify what components they need and how to optimize them to garner maximum benefit. Finally, customers can get unprecedented performance and efficiency with our breakthrough engineered systems.”
Oracle also recently unveiled the first general purpose engineered system - SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 - that combines the computing power of the new SPARC T4 processor, the performance and scalability of Oracle Solaris 11, the optimized database performance of Oracle Exadata storage, and the accelerated middleware processing of the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.
