April 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Fregene became popular during “Dolce Vita” years and is rather more select than Ostia, first of all because in Ostia you can find big buildings  while in Fregne you will only see small elegant villas, and then because you get to Ostia by metro while Fregene it is difficult to reach by public transport.

Anyway arriving in Fregene is really easy if you rent a car, you only have to reach via Aurelia and then you will find easy indication to get there.

During summer time Fregene is very crowded during the weekend anyway if you head there during the week you can find easily a nice place to relax and have fun.

Fregene is the summer residential of the Romans, it is an ideal place to spend a day for those looking for large walks on the beach (the coast extend for about 5 km), relax, and chill out atmosphere.
If you decide to spend your night on the beach there are many bed & breakfast around.

To visit Fregene, one good option is to rent a bicycle (you can do it easily in the main street). Going around you can have a look at the pinewood (Fellini used it as a set for some of his films including The White Sheik, Juliet of the Spirits and La Dolce Vita), and at the amazing villas, in fact many architects expressed their creativity here and every villa is in a different style (Japanese, modern, rustic, etc).

The main street in Fregene is called via Castellammare and there you can find shops and nice bars. If you are crazy for cakes don’t miss Pasticceria Bondolfi.

The most traditional area, in the north part of the coast is called Villaggio dei Pescatori (fisherman’s village), this area was born spontaneously with the construction of huts on the beach by fishermen at the end of the Second World War. You can still see fisherman boats on the beach, and feel a very special coconut smell.

This is the most exclusive part of Fregene and here use to live Marcello Mastroianni, Walter Chiari, Alberto Moravia. It is still possible to look at their houses on the beach.

At aperitif time you can decide to lay on the big white towel they put beach or on the four posts sea view, there is a big buffet and drink prepared with fresh fruit.

During the day, it is possible to rent sunbeds, umbrellas or, if you prefer to move, SUP and Surfboard.

Finally don’t miss to visit WWF oasis, it is in yhe south part of Fregene and provides a rare chance to stroll through a typical Mediterranean setting. It is complete with holm oaks, marine pines, juniper and myrtle. Children will be able to spot a number of animal and bird species, including deer, hawks, porcupines, ducks and tortoises.
