Gulf Air Senior Manager, Rory Black said, “We are glad to be carrying the F1 cargo for the Bahrain Grand Prix, which is the biggest motorsport sport event in Bahrain. “Having transported and delivered F1 shipments successfully in the past, Gulf Air was the carrier of choice once again this year by the logistics team handling all shipments for the Grand Prix. Gulf Air is proud to be a part of this global event and making the 2012 FORMULA 1 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX a grand success,” concluded Mr. Black

"All the teams are happy to be there," Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone said in Shanghai, which hosts the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. Security forces were also on alert in case clashes between youths and police in Shi'ite Muslim villages escalate, or if the health of a jailed activist on hunger strike deteriorates. COUNTDOWN

"In view of the urgency of the matter, we strongly call on the government to seriously reconsider the offer by Denmark to transfer al-Khawaja, a dual citizen of Denmark and Bahrain, on humanitarian grounds, for medical treatment to Denmark," they said.

Bahrain's main Shi'ite opposition had called for the Grand Prix to be cancelled but also urged people not to disrupt the race if it goes ahead to avoid damaging their cause.

"The country is not prepared to host Formula One," said Fadel Mohammed, a fisherman
