Cass Academic Publishes New Book on Supply Chain Risk

April 17, 2012 - PRLog -- The authors, who have been working in the field of supply chain risk since 2004, cover the concepts, frameworks, strategies, and analyses essential for managing supply chain risks in a systematic and practical way.

Supply chain risk management has become a boardroom issue today in the wake of supply-chain disruptions that have grabbed headlines in the recent past. In 2007 Mattel recalled their Sarge die-cast toys from the Pixar film Cars because their paint contained lead that came from a supplier's supplier's supplier to Mattel. Toyota's woes with accelerator-related recalls in 2010 dented the image a company known for quality. More recently, the tsunami in Japan and the floods in Thailand not only took lives but also disrupted the supply chains of auto companies and computer manufacturers.

The book contains several distinct features including case studies, management lessons on how risks can be mitigated and measures for containing risk once disruption incidents have already occurred.

Professor Hau Lee from Stanford University said: "This book ties observations in practice to methodologies and research. As a result, this book is highly relevant to both practitioners and academics. It is a book for management to gain insights and to develop management skills."

The book has also been praised by Professor Marshall Fisher from Wharton, who says the book treats supply chain risk with 'practical relevance and academic rigor', by Thomas Debrowski, Executive VP at Mattel and by Nick Wildgoose at Zurich Insurance.

According to Professor Sodhi from Cass Business School (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/more-about-cass/about-the-school), "The book targets managers as well as early-stage researchers in this fascinating area that could benefit from management, finance and actuarial science research."

Prior to joining Cass Business School in August 2002, Professor Sodhi was Vice President at a software company based in San Jose. Previously, he worked as Director for enterprise e-business strategy at Scient and, prior to that, as Manager in the Supply Chain Practice at Accenture.  His research interests lie in supply chain management (http://www.cass.city.ac.uk/courses/phd/areas-of-study/phd...), in particular in supply chain risk.  Professor Sodhi also has a visiting position at the Indian School of Business (ISB) where he is Executive Director of the Munjal Global Manufacturing Institute.
