Praetorian Outsource Marketing Understands Graduates To Face Earning Slump

April 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Praetorian Outsource Marketing has been reporting over recent months that graduates, and young people in general, are expected to have an incredibly tough time in the job market for the foreseeable future. For those that are fortunate enough to find a job it seems that they should expect lower wages than their predecessors might have enjoyed. New figures released yesterday show that real graduate pay has fallen to its lowest level in almost a decade.

Though the average starting salary for university leavers is unchanged at £25,000 this is actually a significant fall when you take into account rising prices. Once they are inflation adjusted starting salaries are the equivalent of £18,705 which is less than the £18,839 paid to new graduates back in 2000. Praetorian Outsource Marketing can also report that the demand for graduate positions is still incredibly intense with on average 43 applications for each vacancy which is up 12 per cent from 2010.

A spokesperson for the outsource sales and marketing company said, “There is a glimmer of sunshine from the Incomes Data Services (IDS) research which expects a 9.1 per cent increase in graduate hiring this year. However nine out of ten firms will still freeze graduate starting salaries.” The freeze also seems to be hitting the traditionally highest paid graduate jobs with new lawyers unchanged at £36,000 and those in banking and finance at £31,250.
