April 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Gateway Merseyside supports the deal that has been signed between Liverpool council and Peel Holdings to ensure the 17,000 jobs to be created by the Liverpool Waters scheme go to local workers. The agreement, formalised in recent days, creates a detailed framework of how to ensure the local labour force benefits from the £5bn development planned for the northern docklands. The Managing Director of Gateway Merseyside said, ‘this is an amazing development and will definitely help so many locals. These days you don’t hear much about massive job creation so this news is fantastic. Here at Gateway Merseyside we understand the importance of creating opportunity in our local community as this has a ripple effect on the economy as a whole.’

There are four separate targets set which will be closely monitored by both the council and Peel during the construction phase of the 30-year project. The deal was struck under the section 106 powers of the council, which in the past have been used to make developers agree to hand over a sum of money to pay for public space improvements once planning permission has been agreed. Gateway Merseyside is a successful sales and marketing company that specialises within the entertainment industry and one of our sources within the company comments further saying, ‘I am excited to see what other new opportunities develop here in Liverpool. So many people move to bigger cities in search for career and job opportunities – with this new development they wont have to pack up their whole lives and move.’

But the Labour administration said it was taking a new approach and ensuring that the formalised agreement would benefit the most deprived communities. Council leader Cllr Joe Anderson said: “Today is a red letter day for Liverpool. I have worked hard to get this important jobs deal for the city. Liverpool Waters is set to transform north Liverpool and it will also transform the lives of thousands of local residents.”

“The economic situation has not been positive and doesn’t give many people faith that things are going to get batter but it seems that 2012 is the year that things start heading forward and in the right direction. Gateway Merseyside supports all decisions that aid new job opportunities within the Liverpool area,’ continues the MD of Gateway Merseyside.
