The Bodyguard musical hits London's West End

The 1992 breakout film of the year, The Bodyguard starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in her film debut will now be making an appearance on London’s West End stage. The soundtrack from the film has sold over 44 million albums worldwide, and is listed as the fourth most successful album of all time.

Most people see Houston’s version of Dolly Parton’s ‘I will always Love You’ went on to sell more than 12 million copies, and many see it as being more of a success than the film. With this amount of success it’s a no-brainer that the show would feature many of the film’s killer songs – such as ‘I wanna Dance with Somebody’, ‘Saving all my Love for You’ and ‘One Moment in Time’.

Heather Headley a Trinidad-born actress is taking on the challenge of playing Rachel Marron. She was the first person to play Nala in the stage version of The Lion King, and won the coveted Tony Award for Best Actress in 2000, for her role in Time Rice and Elton John’s Aida.

Thea Sharrock is taking on the directorial role, she is known for bringing in names like Daniel Radcliffe and Keira Knightely to the stages of the West End.

Rumours have been circulating of The Bodyguard musical for a while now – but after the tragic death of Whitney Houston in February the plans were finalised.

The Bodyguard is opening at the Adelphi Theatre from 6 November 2012. And it's set to be the event of the year.
