Follow on Google News | African Day Parade and Festival 2012The 6th Annual African Day Parade and Festival will take place on Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 in Harlem, New York. over 50 marching groups, hundreds of performers, and thousand of participants from Africa, the Americas and other parts of world.
The Parade will start at 12 Noon, from 135th Street to 122 nd Street along Malcolm X Boulevard (Lenox Avenue), Harlem. The Festival will be held in Marcus Garvey Park, from 4PM to 7 PM with African celebrities. The theme of this year’s event is “1st Class World Tour to African Heritage,” and its objective is to bring people from Africa, people of African descent, and all peoples of the world together in appreciation of African Culture. In the past, over 50 marching groups, hundreds of performers, and thousand of participants from Africa, the Americas and other parts of world marched in the parade enjoyed by more than 40,000 spectators. Drummers, dancers, associations, bands, singers, and various groups represented more than 25 countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Panama, Kenya, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Niger, Benin, Namibia, South Africa, Honduras, Haiti, Trinidad and more. This year we are expecting to have more stunning African Masked Dancers in the Parade. Many dignitaries, such as NYC Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Fatima Shama, NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Senator Bill Perkins, Assemblyman Keith Wright, Councilwoman Inez E. Dickens, Councilman Robert Jackson, Honorable Theresa Friedman, Elder Nana Camille Yarbrough, Queen Mother Blakeley, and African Ambassadors, were among our Honored Guests and Marshalls in the past and this year is expected to be no different.
