Follow on Google News | Free Spring Festival at Miami's Japan GardenMay 6th marks the Free Spring Festival at Miami's Japan Gardens with entertainment, food, music and martial arts displays.
By: Mike Poller the City of Miami Department of Parks & Recreation will present their Spring Festival and Children’s Day at the Ichimura Miami Japan Garden, located at 1101 Mac Arthur Causeway, adjacent to JUNGLE ISLAND. Event organizer, Ms. Agnes Youngblood says there will be a variety of authentic Japanese entertainment for the entire family, including; Fushu Daiko Drummers who will provide entertainment throughout the day. Children’s Corner featuring authentic Japanese games, origami, arts and crafts Consulate General of Japan will have a booth with information about the Japanese Culture Koto recitel. The Koto is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument made of Kiri wood. They are approximately 71 inches in length. It has 13 strings which are strung across 13 moveable bridges along the width of the instrument. Kuniko is a multi-faceted entertainer whom studied acting in Japan. Since coming to the States, she has expanded into dance, music with several instruments, magic and storytelling. Her presentation is an authentic modern Japanese theatrical act. Martial Arts demonstrations and instruction by National Champions, featuring several disciplines of the Martial Arts. Ikebana demonstration, (Japanese Flower arrangement) Home cooking demonstration will be provided by Michiyo Ishii-Sloane The entire day is FREE to the public. Ms. Youngblood says, “This is a great way for the family to celebrate an early Mother’s Day and experience and take part in authentic Japanese culture. Parking: Public parking across the street from the Garden or in the JUNGLE ISLAND parking garage, only $5.00 with FJG Parking pass, available at the Garden entrance. The Garden entrance is across from the Marina. The Spring Festival is made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of Commissioners.
