April 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Southfield, MI - The Michigan personal injury law firm of Lipton Law is proud to announce its role as a VIP Reception Sponsor for the Brain Injury Association of Michigan’s Annual Legacy Society Spring Tribute Dinner & Auction that took place on March 31, 2012 and attorney Jody Lipton’s role as the event’s Legislative Liaison Co-Chair. The event attracted a record attendance of almost 1,000 people who are dedicated to the principles and successes of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan (BIAMI).

Aiding Traumatic Brain Injury Victims in Michigan

BIAMI is a non-profit organization created to aid victims of brain injury as well as their families throughout Michigan. Since its incorporation in 1981, BIAMI has helped those suffering from traumatic brain injuries and sought to reduce injury incidents through educating communities about brain injuries and their effects; advocating for the needs of injury victims; researching partnerships with other organizations into injuries and treatment; and supporting various forms of resources for those coping with brain injuries. Every year, the Legacy Society Spring Tribute Dinner & Auction recognizes new contributing members and individuals who have contributed to the brain injury field or helped improve the lives of brain injury victims.

Honorees of the event included Dr. Joel Saper of Michigan Head Pain and Neurological Institute and Phil Weaver of the Hope Network. These individuals have dedicated their professional careers to helping individuals rebuild their lives after a brain injury. Perhaps the most inspirational moment of the evening was Captain Mark Kelly’s moving account of his wife, Gabrielle Gifford’s, brain injury and the challenging path she and the family face for many years into the future.

Lipton Law is proud to be a VIP Reception sponsor of the Legacy Society Dinner. As Legislative Liaison Co-Chair, attorney Jody Lipton was personally involved in this year’s Legacy Society Dinner and, along with everyone at Lipton Law, is proud to support BIAMI and the families it aids.

The Devastating Effects of Brain injury

According to BIAMI, about 46,000 people in Michigan suffer non-fatal brain injuries every year. A traumatic brain injury can have devastating effects on a wide variety of body and mental functions of the victim. Depending on the type and severity of injury that is suffered, a traumatic brain injury can result in disabilities that prevent a victim from properly controlling his or her body and impeding cognition. While many brain injuries can be fully recoverable, many more have a life-long impact that requires in-depth care, rehabilitation, and support. The Michigan personal injury attorneys at Lipton Law understand that such injuries can result in emotional, physical, and mental hardships for not only the victim, but his or her family. The serious effects of brain injuries make medical treatment and the support of organizations like the Brain Injury Association of Michigan invaluable for victims and their families.
