Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks) serves Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley. Its Healthy Kids Day will feature health-focused vendors, art and food projects for children, family zumba classes, a kids' boot camp workout, barbeque and healthy desserts.
"Healthy Kids Day is a way for families to get excited and motivated about getting in shape and eating healthy," says Zak Howell, membership director at the Conejo Valley YMCA. "In many families, kids actually get less exercise in summer than during the school year. It's critical to keep children's minds and bodies active throughout the summer."
At the Miller Family YMCA (320 Via Las Brisas, Newbury Park), families will enjoy fitness demonstrations and activities, tumbling, inflatable jumpers for kids, arts and crafts, music and give-a-ways. "Healthy Kids Day is a good time for Newbury Park residents to learn about the YMCA," says Kara Hensley, Miller Y's healthy living and aquatics director. "The Y is committed to helping families find fun ways to improve their health and well being."
The YMCAs will offer tours of their facilities and provide information about summer options available to children. "Parents can sign up their kids to all our programs--day camps, resident camps and aquatics," says Beck.
