Dale Sorensen Real Estate’s Annual Fishing for a Cause Benefits Relay for Life Event

April 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Several friends joined Dale Sorensen, Jr. for a day on the water Tuesday and all fish tales aside, they reeled in a total of 24 dolphin (mahi), the largest being 54 pounds.  The fish will be used to make fresh fish tacos as part of a fundraiser for The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life this Friday, April 13th and 14th at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.  The event begins Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Fishing for a Cause is the brainchild of Dale Sorensen, Jr.  “My friends and I love to fish!  We’re also long time supporters of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser,” Sorensen, Managing Partner of Dale Sorensen Real Estate said.  “So it’s a natural fit to combine the two.  We encourage the public to join us in supporting the American Cancer Society by visiting our booth, and purchasing one (or more) of these fresh fish tacos.  With the public’s help we can reach our goal of raising even more money than we did last year in an effort to help raise money for treatments and research to find a cure for cancer.”

Accompanying Sorensen, who was captain, was Beau Bryan, technician, Robert Kowalczyk, angler, Bill Baysura, angler and Alex Smoot, angler.  The team of fishermen left the dock on Tuesday morning at 4:45 a.m. and headed out to the Gulf Stream.  Seas were only about 2 feet so the water as well as the weather was beautiful.  The team traveled just about 300 miles in all that day and brought in a haul of 24 dolphin, also known as mahi.  Dolphin is a very mild and popular fish, quite often used in the seafood craze “Fish Tacos”.  The largest fish of the day, brought in by Kowalczyk, weighed in at 54 pounds.  

This is the 5th year in a row that DSRE has participated in the Relay for Life event.  Each year, Sorensen hosts his own event, Fishing for a Cause and takes several friends out on his boat fishing.  And each year DSRE uses the fish they catch for their popular Fish Tacos at the Relay for Life event.  “The locals know to expect our Fish Tacos and we see the same people at our booth every year.  It’s a lot of fun and we raise money for a good cause,” Sorensen said.
