Follow on Google News | Next Year, Rock Hall of Fame Should Induct Cliff Richard and The ShadowsA new Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class gets inducted this Saturday, but a radio host and author suggests that England's premier rock'n'roll stars of the pre-Beatles era, Cliff Richard and The Shadows, should be on the 2013 inductee list.
By: Jeff Bleiel “The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can expand its historical scope by giving proper due to what happened in England during the pre-Beatle years,” writes Bleiel in an editorial posted at the cliffrichard.radio.com website. “Cliff Richard and The Shadows were the most popular and influential English group prior to the arrival of the Beatles. They were essentially Britain’s first rock and roll band of any note, and they influenced countless British musicians, singers and bands.” Bleiel is the host of “Wired For Sound: The Music of Cliff Richard,” a weekly internet radio program which airs on Artisan Radio (www.ArtisanRadio.com) To read the complete Hall of Fame editorial, visit http://cliffrichardradio.com/ “Cliff Richard and The Shadows were very popular, very influential, and the majority of their records hold up well in relation to many other current Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees who were recording during that era,” says Bleiel, who places Richard and the band’s work in the same tier as that of Hall of Famers such as Rick Nelson, Bobby Darin and Del Shannon. Bleiel is the author of the definitive book on Bobby Darin’s career, That’s All: Bobby Darin on Record, Stage & Screen (2004). “Wired For Sound: The Music of Cliff Richard” debuted in June 2011 and airs each Wednesday at 3 pm Pacific time (6 pm Eastern time) with encore presentation on Saturday and Sunday at the same time.
