“In this ballet we dance together in very comical roles, that of Marina as the Stepmother and Sergei as one of the ugly Step Sisters,” Fliagina said. Youngest daughter Sasha, who has a role as a flower blossom noted with glee, “My Dad is Mama’s daughter.”
Domrachev and Fliagina were trained professionally in Russia at the Perm State Choreographic College. They danced professionally in Russia at the Moscow Classical Ballet, Perm Ballet and the Kremlin Ballet.
Oldest daughter Leeza, 11, has been accepted at the Perm State Choreographic College, which will be the third generation of Domrachevs who have attended the ballet training center in Russia. Her grandfather –Sergei’s father -- was a principal ballet dancer and is now stage manager of the Chelyabinsk Opera House in Russia.
In addition to dancing the challenging, but comical role as Cinderella’s stepmother, Fliagina, who is associate artistic director of Ventura County Ballet, also helped Rodney Gustafson with additional choreography for this production, which is a favorite for children and adults.
“If you want to completely forget your own troubles for a few hours, come and see this ballet. It will make you laugh out loud. Lots of humor will heal and deal with any problems of the day,” Fliagina said.
The Ventura County Ballet’s Cinderella performances will take place on Saturday, April 14 at 2 and 7 p.m at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way.
