Celebrity Chef to Join Charity Fun Day

Celebrity Chef Rick Stein will be attending a Fun Run to raise funds for the Dyslexia Research Trust (DRT) at Oxford University Parks on Saturday 19th May.

April 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The Trust will be holding a Family Fun Day and two Fun Runs, with refreshments, music and activities for all the family, to help generate vital funds for the DRT’s research and clinics.

Rick Stein OBE, television presenter and author of 16 best-selling cookery books, is a patron of the DRT and will besupporting runners on the 5km and 1 mile course, held at 11am and 12am respectively, as they raise money to help provide children with vital support and continue the life-changing research conducted by the charity.

With places limited, those wishing to enter are encouraged to register online by visiting www.dyslexic.org.uk, or contact Clarice Davies on clarice.davies@dpag.ox.ac.uk or 01865 282552 to secure their position behind the starting line. The entry fee is £5 per race and both runs are open to all to walk, jog or run for the charity. Fancy dress is optional – although those who don’t fancy their chances at breaking a land speed record might want to put thought into their outfit, as there will be a prize for the best costume on the day.

The DRT will also be delighted to welcome their six London Marathon runners to run who will be representing the Trust at the world-famous race this month.

In addition to the Fun Runs, the DRT will be holding a Family Fun Day which is free to attend, with activities arranged such as face painting, a bouncy castle and arts and crafts stalls, as well as a delicious barbecue, refreshment tent and cream teas on offer. The day’s events will commence at 10am until 4pm, and visitors are encouraged to come along and join in the fun, cheer on the runners and help raise money for a worthwhile local cause.

Any support will be gratefully received by the DRT, a charity that provides much-needed support for people with dyslexia. With specialist clinics, a dyslexia diagnosis service and ongoing, committed research into dyslexia and related conditions, the DRT aims to improve the lives of young people with learning difficulties, helping them to regain their confidence and reach their full potential, as John Stein, the charity’s founder says:

“Our aim is to actively help as many children and young people as possible, and to affect government policy so that changes will be made to improve reading instruction in schools. As an entirely self-funded charity, we are grateful of any help to continue our good work.

“From all the DRT staff, we would like to express our thanks to Rick Stein and The Seafood Restaurant, Tim Hopkins of The Oxford Cellar, who is providing our beer and refreshment tent, Amanda Alder Dance Academy for their race warm-up plus fundraising through dance, Buildbase and local listings site HugoFox.com, without which none of this would be possible.”

Runners are encouraged to register online in advance, but places will still be available on the day at 9:45am from the registration tent.

The Trust is currently seeking volunteers to assist as race marshals or finishing line helpers, and would also encourage anyone wishing to hold a stall at the event to get in touch. Donations of new toys, books, and gift vouchers for the raffle/tombola, as well as any tents or gazebos, would likewise be hugely appreciated.
