PRLog (Press Release)
- Apr. 11, 2012 -
The Community Building Initiative (CBI) was established in 1997 to support fair treatment and celebrate diversity in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. In the fourteen years since its foundation, over a thousand community members have become involved. From large-scale civic engagement events, to small-group and organizational teamwork, and individual growth and discovery, CBI has evolved to serve the community as a permanent resource for individuals, community organizations and institutions. Driven by the idea that we are all better off “Different Together” than “Different Apart”, CBI strives to build the Charlotte community into one that is welcoming, and fair to all.
CBI invites everyone out to a public forum entitled “Can We Talk About Trayvon Martin?” tonight April 11th (7:00-8:30PM)
. It is located at Little Rock AME Zion Church on 401 North McDowell Street in Charlotte, NC. It is important for our community to make time for a fair and safe conversation in response to what some perceive to be a terrible injustice, while some perceive a rush to judgment.
Some questions that will be discussed:
• Why is what happened so disturbing?
• Could this happen here?
• What do you want to see happen because of this situation?
Please come join us so that we might have a safe open conversation on what has become a very volatile situation.
