April 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Clearwater, Florida - April 11, 2012 – To highlight his job creation and economic growth agenda, Governor Rick Scott signed four new job bills during a ceremonial signing at Advanced Protection Technologies Inc. (APT). The bills signed included: HB 7023 Regional Workforce Boards, HB 7027 Unemployment Compensation, HB 7029 Nullification and Repeal of Administrative Rules and HB 7087 Economic Development. APT designs, manufactures and sells industrial/commercial, oil & gas and residential Surge Protective Devices (SPDs). Sales grew 28% in the last year and the manufacturing space expanded by 10,000 square feet.

Last October, Governor Scott visited APT and toured the manufacturing plant to promote his plan to increase jobs and grow the economy. During this visit, the Governor met with a handful of workers, discussing how Florida is attracting manufacturing businesses, such as APT. He then explained his plan to make Florida more conducive to operating businesses by increasing benefits like tax exemption and reducing unnecessary government regulations.

“You’ve hired sixteen people since my last visit and you have ten openings,” said Governor Scott. “So there’s ten openings, five in manufacturing, three in sales, and two in engineering. This is the reason why unemployment has dropped for twelve of the last fourteen months. We’ve gone now to 9.4%. We’re at a three year low and it’s because of companies like APT.”

Advanced Protection Technologies, Inc. (APT) has been in business in Pinellas County since 1985, and has grown to become a global industry leader with over 100 employees. APT moved to their current Clearwater, Florida location in 1996 with the construction of a 30,000 square foot concrete block facility. In 1999, APT added 11,000 square feet of office and manufacturing space. As a key component to APT’s long term growth strategy, the high level of technical expertise, state of the art facility, high quality products and company growth will keep APT at the forefront of a competitive global marketplace.

“In this challenging economy, we must have leadership that is aggressive in attracting commerce to the State of Florida,” said President of APT Andy Malcolm. “To give a strong, competitive edge to companies, like APT, government support is critical. It is small businesses, such as ours, who have continued to grow and create new jobs in this difficult economic environment that will bring financial success back to Florida.”

APT is the industry’s largest private label manufacturer of Surge Protective Devices in North America. Current and former private label partners include Siemens Industry, Schneider Electric/Square D and American Power Conversion (APC), as well as a number of smaller, niche market industry leaders.
