   Over the years it has really become apparent to us that a typical company will
incurr high costs relating to employees (Salary, benefits, training etc,)   I.T. (Networks, PCs Software etc), Furniture, (Desking, Cupboards, Storage etc) You will notice we have not mentioned chairs – Why? – Simply because it appears to be the one item that budget holders wish to spend the least on, and yet it is the one thing in the office that is most complained about and can lead to employee absence due to back problems.

                    The formula appears to be £000s on salary, £000s on I.T. £000s on Furniture but a Chair for £50.  The reason its £50 is because cheap materials are used that are probably not compliant and it will have poor functionality. Fabric and Foam alone must be composite tested to BS7176, what’s the weight rating? – Did you ask?

                    You really would not believe the number of times employees complain about the poor quality of their chairs.  I’m afraid we would.

                    Comfortable work chairs are one thing, Functional & Posture Positive chairs are another. Sitting in a chair is not just about “Oh! That’s really comfortable” It’s more about functionality and how you can benefit from its correct use. It should be the same reasoning a company applies to training employees to operate their networks or specialist software. You need to be aware how to set your chair and use it correctly then also how it interfaces with your workstation.  Only when you have the two correctly balanced can you then begin to benefit.
