3 Keynote Speakers to Present at CHI’s Upcoming Pathology Conference in Philadelphia

Hear breakthroughs in the field of pathology such as predictive cancer biomarkers, decoding cancer molecular profiles, next generation sequencing, circulating tumor cells, etc.

April 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) has announced the keynote line-up at its Innovative Tissue-Based Diagnostics conference to take place on June 4-5, 2012 at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.  The following keynote speakers will lead stimulating discussions on pathology in cancer drug development, molecular pathology as the driving force for personalized oncology, and bridging radiology-pathology divide:

John Lowe, M.D., Senior Director of Pathology, Genentech

Dr. Lowe joined Genentech in 2008 as Senior Director of Pathology. Previously, he was a faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis, and at the University of Michigan.  Most recently, he was at Case Western Reserve University as chair of a large pathology department.  Each pathologist in his department maintains his or her own research program that typically aligns with the research programs supervised by scientists in Research Oncology, Immunology, Molecular Biology and Physiological Chemistry.  These research projects include understanding basic mechanisms of angiogenesis - how these go awry in association with oncogenesis, and how such aberrancies provide therapeutic opportunities.  Dr. Lowe holds a certification in clinical pathology from the American Board of Pathology; and he holds an MD from the University of Utah School of Medicine and a BA, mathematics from the University of Wyoming.

Marc Ladanyi, M.D., The William Ruane Chair in Molecular Oncology, Attending Pathologist, Molecular Diagnostics Service, and Member, Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Ladanyi is a molecular pathologist whose laboratory works on the genomics and molecular pathogenesis of sarcomas and thoracic malignancies.  He also co-directs The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) group at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, part of the National Cancer Institute’s TCGA project network. He has authored or co-authored more than 195 primary research papers and more than 40 reviews and commentaries.  A noted investigator, Dr. Ladanyi has received Young Investigator Awards from the US and Canadian Academy of Pathology and from Memorial Sloan-Kettering.  In 2007 he was awarded the Nina Axelrod Lectureship by the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and in 2009 received the Caine Halter Hope Now Award from Uniting Against Lung Cancer.

Guillermo Tearney, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Pathology, Harvard Medical School; Associate Director, Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Tearney received his MD magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School and received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Dr. Tearney’s research interests are focused on the development and clinical validation of non-invasive, high-resolution optical imaging methods for disease diagnosis.  His lab was the first to perform human imaging in the coronary arteries and gastrointestinal tract in vivo with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), which provides cross-sectional images of tissue architectural microstructure at a resolution of 10 μm.  He is co-editor of The Handbook of Optical Coherence Tomorgraphy and has written over 170 peer-reviewed publications, including papers that have been highlighted on the covers of Science, Nature Medicine, Circulation, Gastroenterology, and Journal of American College of Cardiology.
