Birdair, Inc. was awarded the Piscina Olympica roofing subcontract to remove the existing roof, install the new perimeter clamping and to install the PTFE roof. The aquatic facility features an Olympic-sized lap pool and spectator grandstand that will be topped by approximately 73,700 square feet of PTFE fiberglass membrane.
The PTFE fiberglass roof will facilitate daylighting and airflow for Piscina Olympica. The increased natural light from the transparent PTFE material will reduce energy consumption during the day. This will maximize the comfort for athletes and spectators while providing protection from inclement weather. The roof replacement will allow the facility to maintain its unrestricted sight lines and open-air atmosphere.
“The white PTFE fiberglass membrane will not only provide a distinctive look for Piscina Olympica, but will also maintain its brilliance over time with a high level of resistance to staining, soiling and moisture,” says Hector Perez, business development manager for Birdair.
In addition to Birdair, the project team includes owner Gobierno Autonomo Departmental de La Paz, location and general contractor Empresa Constructora Tauro SRL, La Paz, Bolivia.
