DevaConcepts Names Perfections Artistic Director as Deva Inspired Stylist

DevaConcepts, a NYC-based manufacturer of an exclusive hair care system for naturally curly, wavy or chemically processed hair, invited Perfections Salon Artistic Director Kenneth R. Collopy to a recent Deva Curl cutting class it hosted at its local distributor The Brittany Group in Columbus, Ohio. At the end of the day-long class, Collopy earned the DevaConcepts qualification to deliver its proprietary services.

Collopy is well known for his own highly structured proprietary cutting system he developed over his 52-year career as a Cincinnati-based hairdresser.

“I was surprised at how closely the DevaConcepts system mirrors my own,” Collopy said. “I have rarely seen other stylists approach cutting from my perspective, so I wasn’t expecting that. But they have put considerable thought into their cutting system. They part off the hair with thought given to both where the natural curls are ‘born’ and where they ‘live.’ They cut a perimeter, creating a strong foundation for the style. They take substantial care at the sides of the face and around the ears so as not to leave huge holes on the sides – a mistake many seasoned stylists often make.

“This is much more than simply cutting the very ends of each curl, which is often the way stylists approach cutting naturally curly hair. The DevaConcepts system, much like my own, places emphasis on creating a visually pleasing result so your client leaves the salon with a beautiful style, not the same hair she walked in with -- only slightly shorter. It makes so much sense.”
