April 9, 2012 - PRLog -- New York, NY- Monday, April 9, 2012 -The MOMS, Denise Albert & Melissa Gerstein, along with Kids Foot Locker, teamed up with The Max Cure Foundation “Dunk Your Kicks” national program, offering local bloggers a private reception and preview performance of the new Broadway show, Magic/Bird. The mom and dad bloggers had a chance to “dunk” their “kicks” prior to the performance and speak with the Co-Founder of The Max Cure Foundation David Plotkin and his son Max, as he shared the facts about pediatric cancer and Max’s heroic battle with the disease. At the conclusion of the show, The MOMS hosted a talk back with the producers and cast. The segment about the show and the night will air in NYC taxicabs within the next month.

“Our special night at Magic/Bird means so much on so many levels. We were honored to work with another inspirational mom, Fran Kirmser, the producer of the show. It's not just a play about sports.  The message about rivalry and friendship is something every mom, dad and child can learn from,” says Melissa/Denise of The MOMS, “We were thrilled to team up with a dad also doing great things. What a great partnership for us to work with David Plotkin to “Dunk Our Kicks” for such a great cause.  Like Magic/Bird, we are moms dreaming big and working with their team, Kids Foot Locker and The Max Cure Foundation, which is a slam dunk for us.”

The “Dunk Your Kicks” program provides a meaningful fundraising opportunity while teaching kids the concept of philanthropy. By "dunking" their old "kicks" into recycling bins, they take a step towards finding a cure for pediatric cancer while providing support and hope to local families living with the disease. For every pair of sneakers that is donated or "dunked,” Max Cure receives $1, which goes directly towards local families battling pediatric cancer. This program currently supports families in New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island, Louisiana, Minnesota and San Francisco.  Kids Foot Locker contributed to the fundraising efforts of The Max Cure Foundation on Monday evening.  “Considering that The Max Cure Foundation has tremendous support from the NBA players and the mom and dad bloggers, it was a perfect evening to "Dunk Your Kicks" at the screening of Magic/Bird,” says David Plotkin.

The basketball drama Magic/Bird, which traces the fierce competition and eventual friendship between NBA icons Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird, has found a home court at the Longacre Theater located at 220 West 48th Street. At the heart of one of sports history's fiercest rivalries, Johnson and Bird battled for three championships, bragging rights and the future of their sport in the 1980s. The duo electrified the nation on the court and eventually turned their rivalry into one of the most famous friendships in professional sports. “Kids Foot Locker is the place for little heroes to dream big and play big, inspiring children to reach for the stars. Magic and Bird are such great inspirations and we’re honored to be a part of the show,” says Jed Berger, VP of Brand Marketing for Kids Foot Locker. Fran Kirmers, Producer of Magic/Bird states, “What an incredible evening hosted by The MOMS bringing together the show Magic/Bird, The Max Cure Foundation and Kids Foot Locker in a united message and celebration to reach and support our kids.”
