April 9, 2012 - PRLog -- April has been declared National Welding Month. This month, members of the Gases and Welding Distributors Association and other industry leaders are making a concerted effort to inform others about the welding industry and opportunities it provides. Throughout the month, Welding & Gases Today serves as a valuable resource for those companies who supply the welding industry. Welding & Gases Today the leading magazine for the gases and welding equipment industry.

“Distributors can make a big difference just by getting information into the hands of young people,” Monica Pfarr of the American Welding Society Foundation told Welding & Gases Today. “The employment outlook for welding is extremely positive, and distributors are needed to help spread the word.”

With the welding industry facing a shortage of skilled laborers, gases and welding distributors can take the future of the industry into their own hands by becoming more involved with welding work force development. Welding & Gases Today offers articles about how distributors are getting involved with schools and how they are promoting the image of welding.

Through the recently created GAWDA Foundation, distributors are taking part in the “Paint A Vo Tech” challenge. Through this program, distributors select a local welding school to transform with the help of industry partners and students. GAWDA President Bryan Keen wrote about how his experience made a difference for Delaware’s Delcastle Technical High School in “Not-So-Extreme Makeover” (http://www.weldingandgasestoday.org/index.php/2012/03/not...). “Time will tell if these kids have a successful career in our industry, but I left Delcastle feeling good about our effort that day giving them a better chance for success,” says Keen.

Previously, Welding & Gases Today magazine covered Central Welding Supply’s involvement in creating the Welding Rodeo, an event that has helped double the enrollment in welding classes at Bellingham Technical College in Washington (http://www.weldingandgasestoday.org/index.php/2010/08/wel...). Another article, “Back to School,” featured the work of three distributors involved with local welding programs (http://www.weldingandgasestoday.org/index.php/2010/08/bac...).
