Local New Jersey Chef to Appear on Food Network’s “Chopped”

April 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Neptune, NJ – Owner of Foodini’s Catering and local personal chef at the Jersey shore, John Deatcher, will be appearing on Food Network’s “Chopped” on Tuesday, April 10th at 10pm.  He will be one of four professional chefs competing for $10,000 and the title of “Chopped Champion”.

“Chopped” is a cooking competition that provides a basket of “mystery ingredients” to each competitor at the beginning of each round.  The chefs are allotted no more than thirty minutes for each course to prepare a plate using all of the ingredients.  Typically, the basket will include a curveball, like canned chicken or rose petals.  If a chef does not use all of the ingredients, he faces the possibility of being chopped.  One competitor is “chopped” each round until the final two compete in the dessert round.  Whoever makes the better dessert, and overall meal, takes home $10,000.

"Competing on Chopped was one of the most challenging things I've done in my culinary career. It's easy to sit on the couch watching the show and critique the contestant's every move. It's a different story when Ted Allen says "open your baskets" and you have to conceptualize a worthy appetizer within the 20 minute time period. If you slip up just slightly; whether it's nicking your finger, forgetting a basket ingredient or under-season something, you can quite easily go down," Chef John said of his experience on “Chopped”.
