The product does what it is supposed to There are still some things that I need to do on my computer, but I did not buy the fire to replace it.

At first I liked the carrousel, but after downloading several free apps, a couple books etc., it seemed pretty messy, would have been better if you could limit how many things stay on it. Like let you have an option to see 5, 10 or 20 items on the carrousel,or something like that. I don't think the developers had a clue as to what the real life experience would be. When I use something from my favorates list I have to delete it from the carousal when I am done, its in my favorites for christ sakes, I end up having to delete stuff 20 times a day. Also why can't I delete stuff from the cloud that i don't want any longer ? There is also no folder options to organize my games, books, apps, ect both on the device and the cloud. This is a common and basis feature on just about all devices nowadays. This is just poor planning and design, I hope that amazon makes these corrections soon,if they would have spent anytime using this in the real world these things would have been obvious. All in all its a great device :that has untethered me from my desktop for about 90% of what I use it for.

I love the new Fire I just received. Many delights and surprises including exceptionally fast browser, sharp, clear screen, lovely colors, all the pizazz you get on and iPad for $300 less. So what's not to like? My Kindles are research and study tools, with entertainment a distant 5th or 6th interest so my review is heavily weighted in that direction.

1. I cannot believe Fire has NO SUPPORT for Collections. My Kindle Touch does. Good grief it's only a stack of folders that any operating system beyond MS-DOS can create or delete! Where is Collections support and when, OH when is it coming? Serious limitation to the usefulness as the library grows. Fortunately, I have Calibre on my PC and can routinely add or subtract items to the Fire library and keep the number of current books smaller. But that is a lousy option since I do a good deal of translation work and never know when I might need one of the reference items on the Fire. I bought Fire because of the browsing capability which is so rudimentary in Kindle Touch as to be non-usable, except of course to buy books from Amazon! Well, I have to agree, they are in the business of selling books, music, movies, etc. So that is fine on the Touch. The browser is quite good, much faster than I imagined.

2. Even more stunning a defect is the inability to switch DEFAULT dictionaries, which I can do on my Kindle Touch with a few touches of the screen. I have several foreign language digital dictionaries and depending upon the work I'm doing at the time, set up one or the other. (Even Kindle for PC has a choice of 6 different dictionaries now! I wish they would add Latin but they haven't yet.)

As I study, these Kindles are study tools 90% of the time, both 1.) and 2.) are uncomfortable drawbacks. Sure I can get a foreign word into the browser and search the web, IF I'm near a good wireless hotspot or at home. Takes several steps and is awkward with the virtual keyboard to type anything that is at all complicated. I am told that the Sony comparable ebook tablet can handle Collections, don't know about the dictionary. Should have looked at it.

Would I buy Fire again? Yes because I have faith they will fix these things. For now I'll work around them. If they fix these two this thing would get 10 Stars! Come on Amazon, there are comments all over the Discussion pages about the lack of these essential features.

I use my new 'toy' each and every day! It is so great to go to the library without going anyplace! It is so easy to use when all the lights are out and a light doesn't bother my husband while I am reading in bed. I have also been able to read very easily while in the car in full sun (I live in AZ where the sun can be intense). The Apps I have downloaded so far have been fun and easy to use. I have also been able to download my scriptures so I have them handy any time or any place. Best item for the price!
