Just last week the Homes for Horses Coalition held an annual meeting at the Black Beauty Ranch/ Doris Day Horse Rescue in Murchison Texas. Many of the attendees were funded travel stipends from the ASPCA to attend this meeting. Without the support of the ASPCA many of the steering committee members could not justify the expense to travel or the time to leave their rescues and or sanctuaries.
Homes for Horses Coalition is a focused group of Horse Rescue/Sanctuaries that are interested in establishing best practices for horse rescues, ending horse slaughter and decreasing reckless breeding practices. The leaders of this organization are the ASPCA, HSUS and AWI a brilliant collaborative effort to establish focused standards surrounding the equine rescue efforts in the United States.
The formation of this group will unite the hundreds of equine rescue/sanctuaries throughout the US in a focused effort to provide best practices within the equine rescue world. This united group approach will aid in communications to the general public about the need for rescues and sanctuaries as well as aid in a better understanding of what the goals of the rescue world are.
The leadership from the ASPCA, HSUS and AWI bring a broad range of knowledge for the Homes for Horses Coalition to gleen information from and pass through to the many rescue/sanctuary groups throughout the US. Focused and collaborative efforts have the best chance for affecting real change for the greater good of the equine world.
