The event, produced by LexThink CEO Matt Homann and InsideLegal CEO JoAnna Forshee, featured 11 speakers sharing their view on ‘serving clients better’ delivered via 6 minute rapid-fire presentations. The final presenter line-up was chosen by legal professionals based on online voting results and included attorneys, legal software executives, law firm IT & KM leaders, and industry bloggers. 2012 saw 9 new presenters, Jay Shepherd repeating his 2011 debut, and the ABA's Will Hornsby as the only 3-time presenter. If 2011 was the year of the J.D.s (9 presenters were lawyers), 2012 was the year of the CEO with 5 of the 11 carrying the chief executive title.
LexThink.1 2012 sold-out the week prior to the March 28 event and included a diverse audience of 250 legal professionals, thought leaders, innovators and commentators. The event, which has turned into an ‘eve of TECHSHOW’ tradition, was themed with the future of law firm client service in mind.
“Once again, we were so impressed with not only the high caliber speakers but also with the attendee turnout and excitement,”
All speakers including producer Matt Homann with his talk at the conclusion, focused on not only the importance of service in legal but how through technology, ideas, communication, ethics, web 2.0 tools and good old fashioned passion , we can all make a difference in giving our clients a positive user experience. While all 11 talks provided very unique ‘take-aways’
At the conclusion of the event, attendees were asked to cast their votes for favorite, most engaging speaker. The award went to ABA ethics guru Will Hornsby who incorporated his wit and stand-up ‘prowess’ while sharing a number of ridiculous state ethics rules that for one reason or another are still in effect to this day. His appeal t the audience …"If you have a 21st century practice, you deserve 21st century policies. Get involved." Steve Best, founding member of Affinity Consulting Group, came in a close second with overall votes, thanks to his LexThink.1 talk focused on passion …"passion is the cornerstone of innovation. Innovation is the cornerstone of technology."
As has been the case since the event’s inception in 2010, the ABA Law Practice Management Section, ABA TECHSHOW’s annual producer, was again the marquee sponsors of the event and provided the evening’s venue at the Chicago Hilton. Third year sponsor cloud-based practice management provider Clio, led by CEO Jack Newton, again provided financial support, enabling the LexThink .1 producers to offer complimentary tickets and attendance.
“We are very pleased with how the 2012 event turned out and extremely appreciative of ABA LPM’s support as well as Jack Newton’s unwavering support and commitment to the legal profession, “ concluded LexThink .1 co-producer and InsideLegal CEO JoAnna Forshee.
