Funny examples of how we (and Samantha Brick) could learn from thinking like a reader

Often when producing written content, we do it with our writers hat on, thinking about all the technical aspects. But this article shows how important it is to think as a reader also...

April 5, 2012 - PRLog -- A year or two ago when I worked as a content writer, I had been writing a piece on insurance claims while chatting about biscuits, and when proofreading my text found that I had written – If you have a crash, you could be entitled to Oreos. (I highly suspect that if this was indeed the terms of an insurance policy, car crashes would rise considerably.)

The worst has to be when you write something which in your own head sounds reasonable, or it was done with a tongue in cheek attitude, but that doesn’t get conveyed to the reader. I say this is the worst because by this point you will have already submitted/published your work, and it becomes irreparable.

It is always important to proofread your work, and I would recommend more than once. A good tip is to read your work backwards, so from the last word to the first.

I would also advise to try and get work (or job applications) done a few days before the deadline, so that you can come back to them over a number of days to proofread and edit.

Here is a collection of some funny mistakes and blunders sourced from around the internet.
