New Jersey Veterans Produce New Raw Radio Program

A group of military veterans from New Jersey have used their lifelong friendships to their advantage in creating a fresh, raw, internet radio show available for download.

April 5, 2012 - PRLog -- EAST BRUNSWICK, N. J. — They are not as famous as Opie and Anthony and definitely not as crude as Howard Stern….at least not yet. The 10-man crew of the newly formed Internet radio talk show “the Garage Circle” do rely on the same ‘potty talk’ or R-rated material that both O&A and Stern used to help launch them into the spotlight, but they are not in it for the money. Instead, this group of life-long friends, record their routine simply because they are friends.

Recorded once a week in a bar in New Brunswick and then later streamed via the Internet, the show brings a unique style to the mostly young adult male audience.
“Instead of one or two main hosts there are seven to eight guys who collectively chime in,” said Eddie Molina one of the show’s producers.

Still in its infancy stages the show began in May 2011 but that does not mean the guys putting it together are not new to the interaction that makes their show click at all.

“We’ve all known each other relatively well for about 18 years now,” Molina said. “So really we’ve been having these conversations and arguments most of our lives but it wasn’t until this year we decided to do something with it.”

Another unique feature that sets this talk show apart from most if not all is that the majority of the crew involved, are military veterans.

Molina and Mark Lim, the show’s engineer and web technician are both first lieutenants in the New Jersey National Guard. Edison Guerrero, who provides and supports the web server and hosts the show’s website free of charge, is a Sergeant First Class in the NJNG.

Molina’s older brother Ken, one of the show’s main personalities is a veteran himself serving as an active duty Soldier in the Army. The elder Molina served as a field mechanic at Ft. Stewart, Ga., and in South Korea.

Eddie, a graduate of Middlesex County College & Fairleigh Dickinson University, deployed to Iraq in 2008. He would be joined by Guerrero during that deployment. Lim also deployed to Iraq in 2008, however he was with the North Carolina National Guard.

Bar owner, Mike Barrood provides a private room for the group where they record at Mike’s Courtside Bar and Grill.

Growing up the group would hang out in the garage of their friend Bill Fenning’s house. Fenning is now a part of the show as well.

“When we eventually were old enough to go out to bars and parties, we naturally formed a circle away from everyone else and socialized amongst ourselves,” Molina said.

None of the members of the Garage Circle had any radio or recording experience.

“The most anyone knew was that my brother Ken heard about podcasts,” Molina said.

“We had to enlist the help of outsiders I found on Craigslist to get us going with the software and hardware. Mark was with me when we were taught about the recording aspect. Edison got us started on the website but his knowledge was limited. His specialty is computer networking, not web building. I had to take over and complete the website myself, again with no prior experience.”

Inexperience does not deter the group. Instead it brings them closer together. The goal is eventually record several times a week and then from there to perform live.
