2012: The year of the London Olympic or the year of the new business?

April 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Over the past year there has been a drop in new businesses starting, only new UK Businesses falls by 0.9% in the year to March 2011.  With more and more of new businesses being started from the home there is a large trend of spare rooms being turned into home offices and garages turned into small warehouses. The boom can be partly put down to the ever rapidly expanding internet based companies offering just about anything.


Chris Morgan who recently set up his own ebay shop told us “setting up my company was surprisingly easy, once I had made my mind up to do it I sat down and ordered some descent office furniture for the spare room, some extra shelving and a packing table for the garage. Once I had it all in place it was just a case of getting my stock & packaging delivered” Chris, who took early retirement in 2008 is one of thousands of other like him who are enjoying the benefits of being there own boss.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) who currently has over twenty thousand members in Scotland alone launched its government manifesto that is said to call action from local authorities who may well hold the key to the start of local recovery of the economic climate.

A spokesman for http://www.officestationery.co.uk/ , a well established office furniture company told us: “the sales off home office furniture and the amount of deliveries that are going to home address rather than commercial buildings have increased by 55% in the past year for us. ” he went on to say “I think the in crease of small businesses is very healthy for our economy .”

Will 2012 be remembered as the year of the London Olympics or as the year of the small business, only time will tell.
