April 4, 2012 - PRLog -- The conference occurred in the area of Higher education focusing on Industry and academia partnerships at Taj Bengal Crystal Ballroom on 2nd April 2012.

Facing a poor situation in the universities which are concentrating on higher education and research and development, Prof. Ranganath made this statement emphasizing the current scenario prevailing in higher educational sector in the country. He said" What the country needs in this hour is the approval of NCHER and the current NAAC bill which would revolutionize the Indian Educational sector making a single regulatory body for all educational institutes and also making pre-accreditation process mandatory."

In the context of equity, expansion, empowerment and evolution in Higher education, the current Director of NAAC feels it mandatory for all technical and professional institutes to go for pre-accreditation inspection within three years of establishment. Also this would curb any mal-practices conducted by different private institutes in the country. Moreover he feels that NAAC accreditation is just like a health-check up which would give the opportunities to each and every institute to improve upon their processes and systems to become a world class institute.

Prof. Ranganath also said that the universities in India are just like conservative organizations who don't want to change their process and system to benchmark with world class standards. Referring to this context, Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister of HRD, also addressed the conference and said that academic councils of the universities are clustered by people with vested interests. "There is no uniformity in Higher education. A student who is completing his graduation in yearly system cannot shift into semester system because of the lack of uniformity and therefore this sector had become immobile for aspirants, said Sibal in the conference. Moreover a student of an eminent private engineering institute of West Bengal said that the syllabus prescribed by our State University is really old and backdated. This also does not help us to think critically through research and development. "It is the faculties of our institute who motivate us to think analytically beyond the old syllabus," he said. A student of an eminent University in South studying M.Com ( Educational Management) through distance education said that the university syllabus in education management still focuses on the topics of 1990s which are completely changed in the current scenario.

Also the Minister of HRD emphasized on National Knowledge Network as well as single engineering entrance test which would bring uniformity of course with the involvement of the state. "We don't want to force single engineering entrance exam on the states. They will be invited shortly for a discussion," said Minister, of HRD.

Focusing on the current trend of education sector in West Bengal, Prof. B .B. Paira, Director, Heritage, said that the government should encourage private players in Higher education by introducing different innovative schemes and moreover they should conduct faculty development programmes for faculties to train them as per quality standards.

"Faculties are really scarce not only in private institutes but also in government institutes", he commented. A spokesperson of an eminent institute said that once Bengal was the leader in education and now it has to again regain the previous status. "Slowly we are feeling a change which will happen soon where the educated youth below 35 years of age in the country will run India in a progressive way and they would not tolerate the imbalance which is currently happening in India, he said.
