Two Tins of Monsanto Saccharine of More than Sixty-years old were Discovered in China

PRLog (Press Release) - Apr. 3, 2012 - Witnessing the development of the People’s Republic of China, two tins of saccharin, which were produced by Monsanto Company in the 1920s-1930s, came to China more than sixty years ago, were found in a family of Henan Province, China.  The owner said that the two tins of Saccharin have been stored at his home for more than sixty years.

The saccharin is stored in a tin with 15cm in height and 8cm in diameter. English letters are printed around the tin. Although the tin is rusted a little, most letters are still visible.

Letters “Saccharin Monsanto” can be easily found on the tin body.  It clearly shows that it was manufactured by Monsanto Chemical Company in St. Louis, USA.

There is no extract production date on the tin. The two tins have been stored at the owner’s home, Kaifeng city, Henan province since the 1940s.

Reporters in China researched the word “Monsanto” on the Internet and found that Monsanto was an international agricultural biotechnology company, and Saccharin was its first product at the beginning of its establishment. In 1923, the company started to export the tinned saccharin to China.

Once it is confirmed that the tinned saccharin has been stored for the longest time around the world, the owner will apply for the World Guinness Records for the longest preserved Saccharin in the world.
