Joanne, a native of South Africa, founded Tias Arms, whose mission is to provide a dignified, nurturing and compassionate environment for orphaned or abandoned children affected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa. She is the winner of the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Award from Chapman College for her efforts.
"I realized how much could be done with so little,” says Joanne “Fifty cents a day will provide a child with a high caloric food parcel, $45 will feed a child for three months, and $180 will feed a child for a year.” Because of the interventions that Tias Arms has been able to fund in several communities, children with HIV/AIDS are living longer, healthier lives, attending school, eating better, and have a future.
Admission and the luncheon are priced at $35, and general admission without a meal is only $15. Children age 2-12 are free, no need to RSVP. Tickets for a meal must be purchased in advance. To purchase tickets, visit our web site at www.tiasarms.org or call Joanne Baker at 949-650-6254. There will be entertainment, a live auction, and an international marketplace, which is new this year.
Tias Arms is a registered non-profit that raises money to assist children in South Africa who are HIV positive and/or orphaned because of the AIDS epidemic. Funds support a range of programs, from child care workers in group homes to high caloric food parcels for children on anti-retrovirals. Contact:
