April 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Most small business owners and entrepreneurs constantly hear about the importance of having goals, but if the goal isn’t the right goal, sometimes it can hurt you.  What are the types of goals that hurt people and their businesses?  The goals that are so out of reach that when you go for them you don’t have the proper foundation and structures in place to sustain any success.

So what type of goals are the best ones to make, and which ones will support you to get your businesses to where you want it to be?  The kind of goal that you take into consideration because it fits the level of business you are at.  There are five levels in business.  These levels are:
   1-Repair and Recovery
   2-Foundational Building
   3-The Launch
   4-Mastery
   5-Give Back

For an in-depth discussion on these levels, read the book Step It Up Or Get Out of the Way.    If you would like to determine which level you are at, check out the free assessment at: www.stepitupqueen.com/LevelofBusinessPerformance and take the test.

When you are in the beginning stages of repair and recovery, or in a place where you can’t even meet your bills, it would not be time to try new projects, like giving back to your community.  The most common place where business owners and entrepreneurs stumble is where they try to go to the launch stage before they are ready and haven’t built the foundation that would support and sustain them.

Not considering where you really are at, and what needs to be in place to confidently move forward, is a big mistake in goal making.  Going for the wrong goal or a goal that you are not ready for yet can cause a lot pain, hurt and damage.  It would be like deciding to train for a marathon when you are suffering from exhaustion.  Not the best time to push it.

Goals are powerful tools when you take the time and make the investments to ensure that pursuing them is done right and put in place as a support and not a hindrance.
