“America Works” grapples with giving voice to the 99% on kickstarter with 5 days left.

Help give a voice to a documentary that will give voice to unemployed veterans, homeless, among other individuals searching for work…and the people trying to help them despite the odds.

PRLog - Apr. 2, 2012 - NEW YORK -- About Our Kickstarter

Peabody award winning and Emmy nominated producer/director of the Sundance series “Brick City”, Mark Benjamin has joined with Indie film expert Producer Bruce Weiss, and Producer (Outreach & Social Media) Dollena Campbell in order to create and promote “America Works”, a documentary that will put a face on the economic disparity, the struggle for work, and the people trying to encourage reform of government programs, job creation, individual and private responsibility, and most important…find jobs for every person who needs one.   It’s on kickstarter and has five days left: http://kck.st/yotKLa

About America Works/Documentary

The streets across the country swell with protestors and the real unemployment number is stuck in the stubborn double digits. In New York City’s midtown there is an island of hope, an employment agency filled with young and driven go-getters doing the impossible: finding jobs for people in the worst economy we’ve faced since the Great Depression.

At the center of America Works is the controversial figure Peter Cove.  Peter Cove, social activist, is one of the nation’s leading advocates for private solutions to welfare dependency, ex-offender reentry initiatives and for meeting the needs of the marginalized and overlooked populations including unemployed veterans.  Despite his wacky appearance and quirky demeanor, he and his company “America Works” has pioneered performance based contracting…allowing a new model of “put up or shut up” production based pay.  “America Works” takes on all the risk by investing in those searching for employment, in the very beginning, long before they are compensated: going above and beyond by helping homeless, and other unemployed individuals to find childcare solutions, proper clothing, retraining mindsets from a population that feels “hopeless” in the job search…among other non-traditional employment agency roles.  They take on all the risk, but there is also the reward...so far they have succeeded in keeping welfare recipients, placed in their programs, off the welfare rolls in NY for 3+ years and counting, while placing over 200,000 people in jobs.

What We Need

In the next 5 days we need to raise over $13,000 for a total of $15,000.  We will use this money to shoot production. If we can raise more it will allow us to expand our story.  We are in preproduction right now so the funds raised will allow us to continue our shooting, follow the storylines and develop more characters as we did with the award winning series “Brick City”. “Brick City” was a five part series that gave a voice to New Jersey, never seen before, and now we’re hoping to do the same for New York, and the 99% who feel overlooked, let down, and forgotten. These funds will allow us to continue our shooting, follow the storylines and develop more characters.  They will not go away quietly…and we want to help them raise their voices!
