Tom Wall Foundation’s 7th Annual Victors Day A Success, Benefits Special Needs Children

April 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Ann Arbor, Michigan - The T. Wall Foundation’s 7th Annual Victors Day was a big success. Victors Day offers hundreds of special needs students from all over Washtenaw County the opportunity to interact with Varsity Student Athletes from the University of Michigan. The U of M Athletes also sign autographs for the students at the event. Additionally, the participants at Victors Day learn to putt, dribble a basketball, row, catch a softball, and more.  

In sum, over 350 special needs students attended Victors Day, with more than 100 U of M student-athletes from seventeen of the University of Michigan’s varsity athletic sports teams present. Each sports team created an activity for the participants to try, like playing tennis with Nerf balls or lacrosse with tennis balls. The swim team even created an event with bubbles and let the kids try on swim-goggles and medals.

Tom Wall, founder and Executive Director of the T. Wall Foundation, describes the spirit of the attendees. “All these kids are fighters and survivors, and they’ve been through some pretty tough times,” he says. “Over 50-60 percent of these kids were at Mott Hospital at some point, and many of them received visits from the athletes while they stayed there.”

The University of Michigan Best Buddies club collaborates with the T. Wall Foundation to put on the event.

Many of the University of Michigan varsity student athletes were excited to be a part of the event, and looked forward to participating again next year.
