The Everglades are a strong boost to the Keys

The study doesn't specify how much of that money was spent in the Florida Keys. But the recent Everglades National Park visitor survey does provide clues about the dovetail between the two areas.

Among the 527 people who responded to the questionnaire, "If you stayed outside the park, in what town/city did you and your group stay," 92, or almost 20 percent, indicated the Keys.

The Everglades survey also showed that there is a symbiotic relationship between the Keys and the park. While 25 percent of the respondents among winter tourists said they came to South Florida primarily to see Everglades National Park, 15 percent said, they were drawn by the Keys.

When asked how this would affect Business and Real Estate, Kim remarked, “The traffic that the Everglade’s attract, definitely helps us in the Upper Keys. Once here, a sizeable amount of Keys visitors make a decision that this is where they want to have a vacation home and/or retire to.

In fact the percentage of home owners who visited here and fell in love with it  and then bought is around 50%. So yes, more people coming into the Keys because of the proximity of the Everglades, has a direct effect on our Real Estate sales.
