April 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The Food and Drink Federation, Improve and the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink are delighted to announce a new initiative which we believe will revolutionise the delivery of engineering into the UK food and drink manufacturing industry.

Supported by food and drink manufacturing companies including apetito, Associated British Foods, Burton’s Foods, Cargill, Kraft Foods, Mars, Nestlé, and William Jackson Food Group, the industry recognises that it needs to support the development of specialist food and drink engineering capability and to support the future development of a pipeline of talent.

Our industry is therefore looking to work with a specialist University with whom it will develop a new undergraduate degree course for engineers that specifically reflects the technical needs of our industry, will support the behaviours required and will provide a great learning experience for young people. Food and drink manufacturers will be active in supporting both the University and the learners: from recruitment of graduates, guest lecturing, to gaining support of equipment manufacturers and supporting the employment of learners throughout their holidays and possibly a sandwich year – we are committed to making this a success.

We are seeking expressions of interest from interested Universities across the UK and will host a briefing at the BIS conference centre, 1 Victoria Street, London on Thursday 19th April from 10am to provide more information.  We would like to invite you to attend the briefing and potentially submit an expression of interest for becoming the industry’s partner.

Please find attached an agenda and a background document for our Graduate Ambition briefing. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Amy Laverack at: amy.laverack@improveltd.co.uk.
