April 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Marmite shortage: “Marmageddon” - the crisis in our land

The popular Marmite spread is unavailable nationwide prompting Christchurch company, Global Culture, to create one of its iconic t-shirt designs acknowledging the national angst.

Taking a headline first seen on the BBC Asia website on 20th March, ‘Marmageddon" grips New Zealand as Marmite supply falls ‘ the design team created this amalgam of the Armageddon movie poster and the well-known Marmite Jar label to represent the national mood.

“We were seeing headlines about panicking Marmite addicts.” said chief designer Cameron Evans “And that gave us the idea of acknowledging our national loss with typical kiwi humour and a rash of punning headlines.  This was the best of the bunch.”

“The closest we can get to real Marmite now is to wear an image close to our hearts” says Jess Fearnley, retail support manager at Global Culture.  “We had to ask our colleagues to bring half empty jars in from home so we could do the photo shoot.”

The shirts go on sale on Monday April 2nd 2012 in the Global Culture shops and online at www.globalculture.co.nz/marmite

In November 2011 a marmite truck spilt its load on the M1 motorway in Britain starting a Twitter trend of good, bad and excruciating puns.
British Marmite does not use the same recipe as New Zealand Marmite.
