By: K. Gooler If you're searching for restaurant information in the Bergen, Hudson, Morris, Passaic and Essex County, New Jersey areas, you'll find a wealth of information on mybergen.com, myhudsoncounty.com and yourmorris.com. You'll even fond select restaurants from Rockland County, NY and Manhattan! The following article from mybergen.com features Royal Warsaw in Elmwood Park, New Jersey: The corridor along both sides of the Bergen County/Passaic County, New Jersey line has long been a cradle for nurturing ethnic communities. These diverse cultural backgrounds afford the opportunity to sample some traditional ethnic food. Such is the case with The Royal Warsaw Restaurant and Fine Martini Bar. The authentic Polish eatery has been a staple in Elmwood Park for five years, serving traditional cuisine along with American favorites. We tasted a large sampling of native dishes, including stuffed cabbage, a Polish staple which goes by many names from golabek to golomki to gwumpki. To whichever word you subscribe, the experience was enlightening and delicious. Our server was a young woman from Poland who had only been in America for two years. She was very attentive and recommended the Plate A La Warsaw, which included cabbage, kielbasi (Polish sausage), pierogies (dumplings that can be stuffed with potatoes, cheese, meat or sauerkraut) and hunter’s stew. This hearty dish was rich, as is most Polish fare, tasty and affordable at $13.95. We also had a breaded pork cutlet stuffed with mushrooms and cheese, served with mashed potatoes and vegetables ($20.95). The portions were large and filling. We sampled traditional Polish sour soup that comes with egg and sausage in a sourdough bowl. If you’re not daring and prefer a more traditional route, specialty hamburgers are available from a menu that is presented in both Polish and English. Dessert was a Polish version of apple pie a la mode, which we likened more to cobbler than pie. It was not too sweet, overcooked or undercooked. While it wasn’t your traditional apple pie it certainly was exquisite. The bar appeared to be cozy and is apparently quite the social meeting place. The music wasn’t too loud, which made for a pleasurable experience. Reservations are suggested and worthwhile for this traditional ethnic experience.
