Douglas elementary school
In addition to Douglas, CTA recently won the contract to build a new school in Winchester. The Waltham general contractor’s other current projects include the Tahanto Regional Middle/High School in Boylston, as well as schools in Maynard, Burlington and Tewksbury. In the past 10 years, CTA has undertaken more than 45 projects valued over $700 million.

CTA Construction won the Douglas project as the most-competitive, qualified bidder, submitting a final proposal under budget and saving taxpayers $2.6 million. The project’s three components are repair of the Intermediate Elementary School, Construction of a new elementary school for grades 2 to 5, and construction of a roadway and athletic fields.
As designed by the architectural firm DiNisco Design Partnership of Boston, the project details include:
- An 83,100-square-
- Renovation of the existing Intermediate Elementary School and renaming of the building as the Douglas Middle School to serve grades 6 to 8. The building will receive a new roof and new heating system, among many other upgrades.
- A loop road will be constructed to improve public safety with parent drop-off on one side of the school and bus drop-off on the other.
- A new softball field and two playing fields will be constructed, as well as a track for walking and running, with a playing field in the interior.
